Can I get a do-over?
After having worked in the wedding industry for over a decade, I've noticed that so many couples get caught up in the details of the wedding planning process, and forget to focus on what really matters - the celebration of their love and commitment to one another. As a wedding professional who has pretty much seen and done it all, I want to share my personal thoughts on how I would completely redo my own wedding all over again if I could. My overall approach would be 100% different- much more relaxed, and more true to my authentic self, way less about pleasing other people.
First, I would have to change-out my spouse. JK you guys! Just making sure you are actually reading this and not just scrolling through LOL.
First, for real this time- I would hire a day-of coordinator! This is your special day, so don't burden yourself with the stress of making sure everything goes smoothly. I strongly recommend hiring a day-of coordinator to take care of any last-minute mishaps, so all you have to do is enjoy your day. A good coordinator will ensure that everything is running according to the timeline, and that all your vendors are on the same page.
Next, choose a unique and inspiring venue: One of the most important aspects of your wedding is. the. location. LOCATION, LOCATION. LOCATION! You want a venue that is unique and inspiring - choose something that reflects your own style and personality. Consider a venue that is of historic or architectural merit, and for sure has at least some sort of a natural outdoor element. Be sure that the venue’s built-in ambiance fits your own personal vibe and theme. Think outside the box and choose a venue that is not your typical ballroom or banquet hall. PRO-TIP: splurging a bit more on the right venue can actually save you thousands on design work that you won’t necessarily need if the venue has a built-in vibe that you already like.
Third, pay attention to details: It's the little details that make your wedding special and unique. Whether it's a signature cocktail based on your favorite drink or a live band that actual plays music that YOU like, make sure to add-in these small details that truly represent you as a couple. These details will make your guests feel more connected to you and your partner.
Next up, focus on QUALITY over quantity: Don't feel obligated to invite everyone you know to your wedding. Instead, only invite the actual people who personally matter to you and your partner. Imagine not inviting “x” person, does that make you happy or sad? And then, follow your heart. You want to surround yourself with the people who love and support you the most. It's your wedding day, after all, and you should be surrounded by people who will make it special to you.
Finally, be true to yourselves. Don't get caught up in what others expect or what you think a wedding "should" look like. Your wedding day is a celebration of your love and commitment to each other, so make sure it reflects who you are as a couple. Do what feels right to you, without worrying about the opinions of others.
Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and it's important to make it as special and memorable as possible. By following these simple tips, you can create a wedding that reflects your personality, style, and love for each other. Remember to hire a day-of coordinator to take care of any last-minute details, choose a unique and inspiring venue, pay attention to details, focus on quality, and most importantly, be true to yourselves. Congratulations on your engagement, and may your wedding day be everything you dreamed of! For help along your wedding planning journey please don’t hesitate to reach out right here!
